Associated Studios is a prestigious, boutique, vocational Drama school. We strive to train small numbers of extremely talented students to the best of our ability. Students, staff and coaches are in close contact in a family, company environment.
Our training is purely vocational. We train the next generation of successful, working performers. We have an excellent track record of alumni succeeding in booking lead roles in West End and touring shows, as well as TV and film.
We are a family and a network for life. Many alumni return if they need advice, and to share their experience with current students, or to teach them specific show material after a few years out in the industry.
Associated Studios offers rigorous training in all the disciplines required to become an outstanding, professional Musical Theatre performer including high-level, intensive singing, acting and dance. There are daily performance opportunities to hone your craft.
Our teaching staff are made up of top industry professionals working in the industry now. Many core tutors work in the West End and have extensive careers in the perfrorming arts. As a result Associated Studios facilitate many job opportunities for their students.
Associated Studios pride themselves on having some of the best Vocal Coaches in the industry teaching the students one to one on Fridays.
Our full-time students take part in a full-scale production. The entire third term for the BA second year, the Advanced Diploma and MA Musical Theatre courses is a production term. We rehearse as a professional production company with a full creative and production team.
As our tutors and core staff work in the industry, we have an in-depth knowledge of requirements for a successful career. Our courses include projects such as 'Swing project', building a winning Repertoire Audition folder including all genres required in today's musical theatre environment, performance craft classes focusing on integrating acting, dance and singing, classes focusing on truthful physical and psychological connection to the text, classes to support positive mental health strategies, classes to introduce students to self-marketing, building a professional portfolio and more.
Associated Studios offer subsidised, affordable sessions with a therapist in-house, in private one to one sessions on Fridays. Students who would like this extra support can simply sign up.
Associated Studios is passionate about supporting the mental health of its students. Lack of confidence and issues such as anxiety affect numerous performers. We have an open-door policy. Both the Principal and the management team are at the ready with a cup of tea and a chat, when things get ‘too much’. We encourage positive mental health strategies and include ‘mental health strategies and self-management’ as part of our training.
Our Dance teachers are second to none. As we attract performers ranging from beginner dancers to professional Dancers who want to take their training as all-round artists further, we stream Dance classes to accommodate different abilities. Most of our Dance teachers are West End performers who will teach you technique as well as routines from the top shows.
Second year BA students, MA students and Advanced Diploma students take part in a week-long industry panel. Students prepare two contrasting Musical Theatre songs and a monologue. Each day, they perform to an invited panel of Agents and Casting Directors, one-to-one. Agents have the chance to ask for specific material and to interview the students. These agent/industry panels have been extremely successful and resulted in over 90% of graduating students being signed by top agents.
Associated Studios are committed to allowing performers from all backgrounds access to top-level training if they have the talent and potential to do so. This objective is written into our course structure. Associated Studios courses are slightly cheaper than competitors. Our 2-year accelerated BA allows students to train for two years instead of the usual three. The maintenance loans available for this course is higher than for traditional three year degree courses. Furthermore, as Fridays are reserved for one to one lessons, we allow students to dictate whether they want a morning or afternoon class, so that they can take on part-time work during the rest of the day.
We pride ourselves in having a flexible approach with our curriculum. This means we timetable specifically for each student cohort. Every tutor cares about all our students, their individuality and unique needs learning requirements.
The Principal/Founder of Associated Studios is renowned West End/International Vocal Coach Leontine Hass. Leontine works in the industry and is passionate about developing performers. Associated Studios has built a considerable reputation in training performers with outstanding singing ability. All Vocal Coaches at Associated Studios are top in their field.
We are based in a gorgeous 3-story terrace building in Latimer Rd, Kensington. Just a 10 mins tube ride to the West End and 5 mins walk from the hustle and bustle of Portobello Rd market in Notting Hill. The building has wooden floors, white walls, pianos, feels very much like a home and the students love it.
We have a vibrant sister school in Melbourne Australia and there have already been wonderful creative exchanges. Three of our London alumni have featured as Leads in shows all over Australia including Chicago, Come from Away, Cats and Singing in the Rain.
As an organisation we have a philanthropic and creative approach which includes some wonderful outreach projects. Associated Studios have gone into Feltham Young Offenders prison to deliver vocal workshops to the inmates, we have regularly participated in ‘Crisis for Christmas’, delivering Drama workshops to the homeless, including on Christmas day. We have sung on the wards of hospitals and we have given out bursaries to many extremely talented performers who have since featured as Leads in shows such as Lion King, Motown, Come from Away, Thriller, Hairspray, Kinky Boots and more.
We enjoy consistent and hands-on support from many industry luminaries including Performers, Agents and Casting Directors, as well as our patrons Lyricist Sir Tim Rice, Performer Gloria Onitiri (currently in Hades Town),international Supervisor Mike Dixon, Impersonator and TV personality Rory Bremner, Actor Jeremy Irons, Actor Tim West, Producer Danielle Tarento, Composer Scott Alan, Opera Singer Rosalinde Plowright OBE, and Agent Alastair Lindsey-Renton.
