While the Royal Opera and English National Opera take a well deserved break over Summer, Opera in London is well served by Opera Holland Park. As well as producing world-class opera every year in gorgeous surroundings, this is a company dedicated to working with developing and emerging artists, including numerous Associated Studios Opera Course graduates. The OHP Chorus is where many young artists work professionally for the first time, and many smaller roles are regularly assigned to choristers. The Christine Collins Young Artist Programme allows budding professional singers and conductors to understudy established artists in the mainstage season and to perform their roles in specially promoted performances.
This Summer OHP will stage Mascagni’s rarely performed Iris, directed by regular Associated Studios tutor Olivia Fuchs, Johan Strauss’ effervescent Die Fledermaus, Rossini’s rendition of the Cinderella story La Cenerentola and Tchaikovsky’s dark and brooding Queen of Spades. Puccini’s ever-popular La Boheme rounds off the season, and as part of this production the artists of the Christine Collins Young Artist Programme will give a specially priced performance on 24th June.
