Associated Studios is thrilled to announce their next workshop ‘The Naked Face: Secrets to a successful self-tape’ with David Penn – Film, Theatre & Television Director extraordinaire.
Getting cast, in other words, is the holy grail. Most self-tapes delivered today are guaranteed to fail an actor’s natural talent. David shows why but, more important, he shows just what it is that’ll capture the interest of CDs, Directors and Producers
David introduces what’s called-for in an actor to play the lens of a camera, to real effect. It’s a skill, most surprisingly, which is little understood. What’s generally taught, the surfeit of methods and techniques available, are inclined just as much to confuse as to help. David’s understanding, his unique take on the matter, born of years of experience, cuts right to the quick. In ‘The Naked Face’, he clarifies the nature of ‘the game’ that it is. Countless actors have gone on to great success as a direct result of having undertaken this process with him, a fact which many testify to; see the testimonials page of his website: http://www.thecloseup.eu/testimonials.html.
David has been directing actors in theatre, television and film, and singers in opera, for over forty years. He was a Staff Director at the Royal National Theatre, where he assisted Harold Pinter, Tom Stoppard and David Hare. He’s directed both contemporary and classic plays at home and, most recently in Europe. In opera he was a Staff Director at Glyndebourne Opera, and most recently he directed an extremely well-received ‘Lucia di Lammermoor’ at Winslow Hall Opera in England. He’s directed drama on all the major UK terrestrial channels, BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel4, FIVE, and also on SKY1. Well-known productions include ‘Coronation Street’, The Bill’, ‘Casualty’ and ‘Dream Team’, the last of which he produced, for a time. These days, he concentrates on hosting these extremely successful, unique screen-acting masterclasses, in the UK and all-around Europe.
