Movement and Dance Coach
After a successful performing career as a Dancer, Singer and Recording Artist, Sam Spencer-Lane began her choreographic career working for Thames Television choreographing Light Entertainment and Children’s programmes.
After Five years she moved to the Theatre, working with Barry Humphries on his critically acclaimed show ‘BACK WITH A VENGEANCE’ at Drury Lane. This show then went on a UK Tour followed by an Australian Tour.
Sam then started to Choreograph Musical Theatre and Plays . She worked for Bill Kenwright for the next few years putting on Pop and Rock shows, working with Actor Musicians and developing the music of the 70?s (THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC), the music of the Blues Brothers (BLUES BROTHERS/SOUL SISTERS) and a new jukebox Musical exploring the music of Cliff Richard.
Sam is also known for her work on new shows at the Bridewell Theatre , and more recently the Menier Chocolate Factory, working with Jason Robert Brown on the Uk Premier of his shows THE LAST FIVE YEARS and SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD , and also with Maltby and Shire on their brand new musical TAKE FLIGHT.
Her two recent Projects at the Chocolate Factory being THEY’RE PLAYING OUR SONG and THE INVISIBLE MAN.
In 2008 Sam joined forces with David Wallingham and Matt Lucas to choreograph their hugely successful show LITTLE BRITAIN LIVE which enjoyed a long run at the Apollo,Hammersmith,London and a UK tour.
During this time Sam continued to work on many Musicals, Plays and Operas in London’s West End and the regional Theatres, winning awards for THE HIRED MAN at Salisbury, and both PERSONALS and RAT PACK CONFIDENTIAL enjoying long runs in London’s West End.
Other new Musicals Sam has choreographed are ALICE IN WONDERLAND and PRIVATES ON PARADE which have been produced by West Yorkshire Playhouse and Birmingham Rep.
Musical credits are; COMPANY, (Southwark Playhouse), PAL JOEY,(Nottingham Playhouse), ONCE UPON A MATTRESS (Belfast), TRACEY BEAKER GETS REAL (UK Tour), DEMON HEADMASTER(UK Tour), Rodgers and Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA (Bristol Old Vic), HONK (Watermill,Newbury), and WIZARD OF OZ (Theatre Clwyd). The Film, PRIVATE PEACEFUL which is due for release next year.
Sam Spencer-Lane was Head of Musical Theatre, Dance and Movement at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts from 2002 – 2012, and is currently external examiner for Arts Educational.
