About the course:
This Foundation course focuses on developing the performer’s vocal skills, while at the same time developing an increased awareness of text and physicality, all three of which are essential in creating a powerful dramatic performance.
This course is for singers who want to develop the skills learned in their teacher’s studio into more theatrically oriented skills. Singers will already have completed several years of vocal study, but not yet feel ready for a full blown opera course. During the course you will work with some of the country’s best vocal coaches, directors, language coaches, choreographers, repetiteurs and conductors.
This course will give you an invaluable insight into the demands, challenges and rewards of opera and will provide an ideal basis for further study.
- Classes include:
- Group workshops in dramatic, musical and interpretive skills
- Sessions with experienced opera repetiteurs and conductors
- Opera scene rehearsal and role-study
- Acting and Improvisation, with emphasis on text
- Language coaching
- Alexander Technique
- Audition Technique
- Performance craft
- Music coaching and vocal technique
The course leaders are Associated Studios Principal and renowned vocal coach Leontine Hass, widely experienced coach and repetiteur Mary Hill and internationally respected director William Relton.
Who should apply:
- Classically trained singers wishing to develop their Opera performing skills
- Singers from other disciplines who are considering moving into Opera
- Performers keen to audition for our full-time diplomas who need time to improve their skills
Our courses are about individual journeys and the opportunity to expand and develop your skills. Our 4 Month Foundation Opera course is designed to allow less experienced performers to develop their skills while fitting their training around a normal working life. This course is a chance to build the foundations required in order to move on to further training. We offer training at the highest levels, and focus on allowing performers to develop in accordance with their needs. Applicants must be over 18 to apply, and we welcome international applicants.
Fees and Finance:
- Course Cost: £2,590
- Following acceptance of an offer to join the course, the deposit for the course is 25% of the full fee (50% for overseas students)
All Course fees may be paid in instalments. In instances of financial difficulty we sometimes allow lengthy instalment plans.
