This 3-year BA (Hons) Opera Performance Studies is run in collaboration with Rose Bruford College. It is designed to afford you a period of intensive practical study of the essential skills required to build a successful career in Opera. The programme aims to develop you as all-round performers.
A central, intensive two-year practice period is flanked by academic study on-line and intensive practice weekends. During the intensive practical phase of the course, students study three days per week based at Associated Studios.
The academic content of the course is delivered online and you are required to deliver regular assessed projects. The academic study is designed to provide a theoretical underpinning that supports your practice and covers aspects of opera as a performance art – analyzing directing styles, composition, researching libretti, understanding the social history of opera, Lieder and much more.
Please note, this course is subject to validation. The College reserves the right to withhold the programme should there be insufficient numbers.
One of the great advantages of this course is that you will only need to find two years of living expenses, and will graduate having been put through your paces on a rigorous vocational programme, backed up by intensive academic learning crucial to your understanding of your craft in theory and practice.
As most applicants will be 18-25, great care will be taken to build your voices carefully and progressively with age and voice appropriate repertoire and in consultation with established singing teachers. The progressive accumulation of the practical component considers the needs of young voices. Apart from studying appropriate Opera scenes and arias, you will also study other recital repertoire including Lieder and Chansons.
Throughout the course you will work with top industry practitioners including repetiteurs, conductors, performers, language specialists, directors, acting coaches, vocal coaches and movement coaches.
If your application is successful, you will be given a date to audition. There is a £40 audition fee to cover the cost of the panel, venue and accompanist. Your audition fee must be paid in advance and can be paid by phone on 020 73852038.

‘Nothing could have prepared me for the sheer volume of talented performers, directors, conductors and tutors I worked with throughout my time on the Opera Course with Associated Studios. I received so many pearls of wisdom from everyone who taught at the studio. I was greatly humbled by the care and dedication shown to me by Leontine and her lovely team. I was encouraged to try repertoire that I might not have chosen previously (which suited me beautifully) in a safe and fun environment where I was given the opportunity to experiment, play and make mistakes. I am excited by the contacts that I’ve made during my time on the course and have already been hired to play a lead role in Lyric Opera’s next season.’
